Lecture: Writing the Bejeweled Past: Turning Fact into Fiction in India’s Mughal Empire.

MEDIUM DAY 2025: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19th

I’m giving a Mughal Empire talk on Medium Day 2025; essentially a mini writing class. I will pull examples from the novels of my Taj Mahal trilogy and show you how I did my research into 17th Century India, how I created a timeline, and whether I chose to follow it or not. And why not.

The novels take place mostly within the enclosed world of the imperial harem, where the women quietly held and controlled power, influencing the longevity of India’s Mughal Empire. The same empire that built the Taj Mahal.

I’ll open the floor for questions after my talk, and you’re welcome to ask. Photos below give more details — September 19th from Noon to 12:30pm PDT. Please check the time of my event with your time zone!

There is a splendid lineup of speakers all through the day. The entire event–which is on Zoom–is free. Register on Mediumday.com. (You will need a (free) Zoom account).

Hope to see you all there!
